    *** AZGT Week 4 Results ***
The AZGT Championship kicked off the second half of the season with a Sprint round at the Christiansenring. A very fast, flowing circuit that was a lot of fun. Catch the technical section right and you could stay wide open nearly the whole time, pulsing the throttle at just the right moment to hook around the hairpins.

Even though there were about four different motor types out there, the racing remained fairly close. We even had a new driver join us and did alright for having just picked up a Mini-Z for the first time about 5min before the race.

The field is running much closer together now making for some tight finishes. DJ in particular I think earns the Most Improved award. After switching from the stylish Porsche 935 to the low CG McLaren LM, he's running fast and dicing it up with the rest of the pack. Well done.

There was a little confusion over the time of the next race, so this will be a day race as per normal on Saturday the 21st.

Bill is our first random track designer this month, and we begin the second half of the season with the Sprint at the Christiansenring. It looks like a fun circuit.

    New drivers always welcome!

*** (June) Season III OLPS Finale Results ***
Mini-AZ brings home the top spot in the Driver's Championship! Congratulations Brad! And congratulations Hood, Joe, Bill (and even me!) for hanging onto the Top Ten! And congratulations to OnRailz, Spoon, HobbyCar, Ringer, and Mini-Z for a hard fought battle for that top bracket. Well done all.

That was a terrific season, with new and challenging layouts, and tougher than ever competition from the Top Ten on down the line. We had great fun competing with all of you in your various parts of the world and look forward to going even faster in Season IV.

Mini-AZ was only able to capture the runner up spot in the Club Championship, but against some solid performing clubs that is certainly an achievement to be proud of. This is the result of teamwork and encouragement to elevate each person in our group to be the best driver possible. Congratulations again to everyone at Mini-AZ to bring home this excellent result. And congratulations to DC GTG on capturing the title of "Fastest Club in the World".

Season III is over and what a great time it was. Mini-AZ finished very well (won't know quite how well until the results are posted, but well I'm sure).

Now begins Season IV, and time for us to prove our good finishes weren't just luck. With the new HFAY Spec motors we will see the fastest season yet, demanding even greater driver discipline to stay out of the walls and get that car around the track.

    Gentlemen, start your engines.

New to 1:28 scale racing? No problem- we usually have a couple loaner cars available for walk-ins. So come on out and have fun in the cool indoors with this friendly competition, we look forward to racing with you!

The Petit Le Mans round of the AZGT Championship saw some very fast racing around the Phoenix Circuit. Despite the unusually high velocity there was very little damage, with the exception of Brad's Skoal Bandit VDS which lost a terminal about of front fender.

Mini-Details also joined us for the second race of the day and now has points on the board. We were glad you made the drive out from Chandler and hope to race with you again soon. Don't forget the new season of the OLPS begins in July, plus there is the upcoming Formula 1 season around October.

(Note further scoring corrections below to Bill and Joe's positions. I'll get it right yet).

Entering the mid-point of the AZGT series, we come to the Petit Le Mans round. This will be two 30 minute endurance races running Clockwise and Counterclockwise.

Qualifying is done F1 style with three 10 lap races to determine grid order. A maximum of 10 points can be scored in each Petit Le Mans, with an additional 1,2, and 4 points for the top three qualifiers. So a maximum of 28 points are up for grabs.

Brad has designed a rather high speed circuit this time with The Phoenix Speedway. With our hotter motors and the near continuous floor-it nature of this layout, you best get a good charge on those batteries.

The F1 test last month, while great fun, didn't even start until we were supposed to be packing up. So from a practical standpoint it would be too difficult to jam it into an AZGT day. Still, they are so much fun to drive I really want to run an F1 series. Let's figure out a way to do this.

    New drivers always welcome!

Wow! Great results guys. And we broke the 100 lap barrier! We were really on our game last month, particularly in the CCW race locking up the top five spots. Practice and team work guys, practice and teamwork paying off.

Now we are down to the final race of Season III. Brad and OnRailz are tied for the Championship. The next track is a tough one, requiring perfect timing through the 180's and laser-like precision through the chicane and out to the fast straight without pushing into the wall.

I hope everyone got plenty of practice in. So let's bring that Championship title home to Phoenix!

See 'ya all on the 16th.

    ***May AZGT Schedule***
After our long break we are back to AZGT series racing with the Round 2 Sprint event.

Last season's third place finisher has started Season III in the top spot with 28 points, but Hood is close behind with 24. With a maximum gain of 36 points available, the leader board could look very different by the end of this race.

Brad scored the most wins of Round 1 and so won the track design honors for Round 2. The Scottsdale Keyhole circuit will see the Sprint race of Week #2.

CW and CCW races in three stages each: Two 5min and one 10min. Afterward we will conduct a test run for an F1 Series to see if it can be run after the AZGT on a regular basis. Remember to have your F1's wired for the AMB transponders.

For this test session, use the AZGT rules for the F1's. Ignore weight limits for now. We will run 10min practice followed by a 100 lap race (about 1/4 of a full scale race distance at 1:24 scale)

    New drivers always welcome!
We usually have a couple spare loaner cars if you don’t have a 1:28 scale car and would like to give it a try.

    ***May OLPS Schedule***
We're coming down to the final races of Season III and Mini-AZ is doing well. Brad even grabbed the top spot in March.

We continue the charge on Saturday, May 12th. This time we have a special guest joining us. ByeBye (and I think family SheShe and Drew) will be passing through Phoenix and will stop by to score their points.

I raced with ByeBye, SheShe, and Drew when my wife and I were touring England last year (in May in fact). The Stafford racers showed us a great time and had a large turnout for us, so let's return the hospitality with some fun racing at Mini-AZ.

*** We are now scoring with the AMB system. If you own an AMB transponder please bring it. We will try and have some loners available for those that don't.***

New to 1:28 scale racing? No problem- we usually have a couple loaner cars available for walk-ins. So come on out and have fun in the cool indoors with this friendly competition, we look forward to racing with you!

    OLPS Season IV Spec Motor
The new Spec Motors for OLPS Season IV are on the way. They are pre-drilled ball bearing cans, faster armatures, ferrite magnets, and carbon brushes. The Caps are pre-installed oriented to fit AWD chassis too.

Pre-orders are available at the low price of $14.50 until May 1st:
    http://shop.tinyrc.com/product.php?productid=18693

Enter the coupon code HFAYOLPS4 at checkout to receive the discounted price.

We should save money on shipping and just make one order. Tell me how many you want and I'll order them on Friday.

The message I got said these are required for Season IV, which is a surprise and I hope an error. We had long agreed that the Stock motors would also be legal. I haven't received word back on this yet.

    ***Demo Day at Speed Sports***
Every Saturday night at 35th Ave and Thunderbird, Speed Sports hobby shop holds R/C racing in the parking lot from around 7-10pm.
    http://www.speedsportsusa.net/

On April 21st Mini-AZ will hold a Demo Day with a track setup beforehand in the fenced off track area. Spectators and drivers are welcome to have a computer scored run on an HFAY layout to record official Time-Attack times, or race in a group for a simulated OLPS run.
    (HFAY/OLPS= www.HowFastAreYou.com )

If you don't have a 1:28 scale car, this is a great and free way to experience what mini-scale racing has to offer.

We expect to have the track open from about 6-7pm. After that the area will be opened up to full track size for the nights larger scale racing.

The Phoenix weather at night right now is absolutely perfect. Hope to see you all there.

(Note: If you wish to take part in the larger scale racing after 7pm, you need to sign up beforehand at the store).

    *** March OLPS Results ***
Congratulations Brad for grabbing the top spot. He battled back from adversity in the first race to achieve 97 laps in the second race. 97!!! Early on he was setting a 99 lap pace but tagged the wall a few times. I wish I had been rolling video instead of marshaling, because with steely-eyed determination he rallied back with a series of perfect laps that were pure magic.

Mini-AZ is on a mission now, the 100 lap barrier can be broken. Which club will do it first?

I think the Never-Say-DNF award goes to Hood though. A series of problems culminated in throwing a tire with about a minute to go, but he soldiered on... on three wheels... and still finished only one lap behind me. Clearly my problem is I have too many wheels.

We used double 8min Qualifiers this time instead of solo laps. The order was hotly contested with no quarter asked or given, but in the Mains, when it really counted, I saw teamwork and sporting courtesy. The results show in the points.

Well done everyone, and I'll see you all on April 7th for the next OLPS.

(Look at the top three grouping in Race #5, now that was an exciting finish)

    ***March AND April OLPS Schedule***
Coordinating schedules for these two months has proven rather tricky. The March OLPS will be held on March 31st. The last possible moment, so we can't miss this date.

The April OLPS will be held the following weekend on April 7th, so back-to-back weekends.

With so many drivers being out of town, this will be our only official race in April. There is a sort of Demo-Day planned for the evening of the 21st at Speed Sports along with their 1:10 scale activities. Info about this to follow later.

*** Due to constant issues with CORE glitching, we will be switching to AMB scoring as of March 31st. If you own an AMB transponder please bring it. We will try and have some loners available for those that don't.***

    ***March AZGT Schedule***
And so it begins. The sun rises on a new day and the promise of victory in a new season glows on the horizon, beckoning all to the chase. Last season 13 drivers scored points in pursuit of that horizon. There were many winners, but only one Champion stood in the bright noon of ultimate victory.

This season many veterans of campaigns past will be back, and some new faces will join the fight. Faster motors, faster cars, and faster drivers will take to the field of battle, charging ever harder for the win.

Better get chasing that horizon, the AZGT Championship Season III starts now.

Having won the final race of Season II, Brad has designed the first track of Season III. The Laveen Circuit will see the Sprint race of Week #1. CW and CCW races in three stages each. Two 5min and one 10min.

I made a few small final adjustments to the Sporting Regulations based on input from the drivers. Key differences are:

    1.Sprint A Qualifying is 10 laps instead of 5.
2.Le Mans Round 3 Qualifying is 10 laps instead of 20, and the top three qualifiers score points (4, 2, 1).
3.Simple maintenance (oil, tighten screw, etc) is permitted after Qualifying, but must be done at Parc Ferme.
4.In addition to normal Scruitineering, three cars will be randomly selected for FET inspection.

Email me if you need the new edition rules PDF file.

*** February Fun Run Results ***
Mini-AZ has held its first Fun Run event. These will occur every few months to break up the AZGT season and let everyone stretch their legs as it were by running multiple classes.

This was a stand-alone non-points type of event made up of two 10min Qualifiers and one 15min Main. Just have fun and drive for the win. Thanks Joe and Hood for managing this event.

This month saw 70T Stock, 45T Stock, and Formula One classes take to the track. It was a very busy day fitting it all in, and a lot of fun getting cars out there that we otherwise don't often see. Hopefully next time we'll see some Overlands show their mettle too.

Some pictures from the event are on this site:

    ***February Fun Run Schedule***
Rather than run one continuous AZGT racing season, we've decided to intersperse non-points Fun Run events every few months. So before we kick off the chase for the Season III title, Mini-AZ will hold a multi-class race day.

Bring everything you've got, we'll run 'em all!
    70T (Stock FET)
    43T+ (Stock FET)
    Modified (Unlimited)
    Formula 1 (Stock FET, 43T+)
    Overland (Stock FET, 43T+)

Ironically I have no way of attaching the PDF rules file here. If you need a copy email me though the site. A copy can also be downloaded directly from our sub-forum on Mini-ZRacer.com.

    Mini-AZ Fun Run Day
    Saturday, February 24th
Don Jackson Enterprises / Phoenix Porsche
1931 W. North Ln. (19th Ave and Peoria)

This one is Joe's show, so if you have any questions or concerns he's the guy with the answers. Hope to see you all there. Have fun!

    New drivers always welcome!
We usually have a couple spare loaner cars if you don’t have a 1:28 scale car and would like to give it a try.
